Beth Moore Biblestudy of Esther

It is tough being a woman:

1. In another woman's shadow

2. In a world where beauty is a treatment

3. In a mean world

4. Thrown a giant-sized weight

5. In the tight fist of fear

6. Who can balance passion with patience

7. Who feels responsible for the how.

Christmas Cookie Rules

1. If you eat a Christmas cookie fresh out of the oven, it has no calories because everyone knows that the first cookie is the test and thus calorie free.

2. If you drink a diet soda after eating your second cookie, it also has no calories because the diet soda cancels out the cookie calories.

3. If a friend comes over while you are making your Christmas cookies and needs to sample, you must sample with your friend. Because your friend's first cookie is calorie free, (rule #1) yours is also. It would be rude to let your friend sample alone and being the friend that you are, that makes your cookie calorie free.

4. Any cookie calories consumed while walking around will fall to your feet and eventually fall off as you move. This is due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.

5. Any calories consumed during the frosting of the Christmas cookies will be used up because it takes many calories to lick excess frosting from a knife without cutting your tongue.

6. Cookies colored red or green have very few calories. red ones have three and green ones have five - one calorie for each letter. Make more red ones!

7. Cookies eaten while watching " Miracle on 34th St. have no calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel.

8. As always, cookie pieces contain no calories because the process of breaking causes calorie leakage.

9. Any cookie consumed from someone else's plate have no calories since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and will cling to his or her pate. We all know how calories lke to cling!

10. Any cookies consumed while feeling stressed have no calories because cookies used for medicinal purposes never have calories. It's a rule!

So, go out and enjoy those Christmas Cookies. We only get them this time of year!

The Twelve Days of Christmas

From 1558 until 1829 Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. So someone wrote this song. It has two meaning. a surface meaning and a hidden meaning.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtle doves were in the Old and New Testaments.
Three french hens stood for faith, hope and love.
The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The five golden rings recalled the Toorah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
The six geese a laying stood for the six days of creation.
Seven swans a swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit-- Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership and Mercy.
The eight maids a milking were the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the holy Spirit-- Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, kindness, Goodness, Gentleness and Self- control.
The ten lords a -leaping were the the Ten Commandments.
The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles Creed.

Writing memoirs

I just finished reading the book:" Old friends From Far Away" by Natalie Goldberg.

I wanted to write about what she says in her book. This really was not a book about journaling but what she says in here about writing is why I have journaled since a teenager. there is a lot of usefully information in this book. I have read several of her books. I have enjoyed them all.

The word memoir comes from the French memoire. writing is the act of reaching across the abyss of isolation to share and reflect. Writing has an urgency. it is alive. A writer has to have a third thing. That is something to write about. Memoirs are usually not about your whole life. They are more an expression of your life through something. your writing needs to become transparent. We need to write about the ordinary; otherwise we won't know what they are and what direction to head. Memoir is not reportage. Memoir examines how one thing leads to another, how human life unfolds. Memoir is taking personal experience and turning it inside out. We surrender our most precious understanding. this means when we write we give up ourselves. The reason we write memoir is to surrender ourselves. Subjects to write about come from your life and surroundings. With memoir we can go back to retrieve our lives, to make sense of them. One of the jobs of writing is to not pass over hurt, pain, loss or missed connections. you write your memoir to remember everything. The good and the bad. Your writing is a breathing organism. Pour your heart out in your writing. A memoir is like a mirror reflecting back your life. A memoir is like walking into a vast room full of beginnings and endings.

I hope this helps you to understand what a memoir is.

Natalie has written many books on writing. I highly recommend them all.

What is Archaeology?

What is Archaeology?

Archaeology is the understanding of humankind. It is a humanistic dicipline. it is concerned with the full- range of past human experiences. It is a subdiscipline of
Anthropology. It is both a physical activity and an intellectual pursuit.
Archaeology is concerned about the study of artfacts.

A question that has many in the field of Anthropology and Archaeology concerned with is:
Who owns, or should own the past?

Archaeologists use the terms "BP" and "years ago' interchangeably, since a difference of 50 years or so between them is irrelevant.

Dendrochronology:
Tree Ring Dating. It was developed by an American astronomer A.E. Douglass.

23rd Psalm for the Student

The Lord is my real instructor and I shall not want.

He gives me peace, when chaos is all around me.

He gently reminds me to to pray before I speak and to do all things without murmuring and complaining.

He reminds me that He is my Salvation and not my school.

He restores my sanity everyday and guides my decisions that I might honor Him in everything I do.

Even though I face absurd amoounts of homework, quizzes, tests, unrealistic deadlines, shortages of funds, gossiping students, discriminating teachers and a sleep - deprived body that does not cooperate every morning, i will not stop - for He is with me!

His presence, His peace, and His power will see me through.

He raises me up, even when they fail to give me good grades.

He claims me as His own, even when the class threatens to flunk me.

His faithfulness and love are better than any A+.

His eternal reward beats every degree there is.

When it is all said and done, I will be working for Him a whole lot longer than I will be in school ( even when it does not feel like it) and for that I bless His Name!

Spirit Life

The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord.

David Principle

What is the David Principle?

It is the idea that if something is valuable to you and you give it, then God takes notice. It's about sacrifical giving, about giving God what what matters to you and giving Him only your very best.

Drink, Steal, Swear, and Lie

I heard about a guy who has a motto he lives by everyday. He said, "Listen carefully and live by these four rules;

Drink, Steal, Swear and Lie.'

I was shaking my head, "No", but he then told me to listen while he explained his four rules.

1. "Drink' from the "Everlasting Cup" everyday.

2. "Steal" a moment to help someone who is in worse shape than you are.

3. 'Swear" that you will be a better person today than yesterday.

4. And last but not least, when you "lie" down at night thank God you live in America and have your freedom.

God's Rosebud

God's Rosebud
==============

A new minister
was walking with an older,
more seasoned minister
in the garden one day.

Feeling a bit insecure
about what God
had for him to do,
he was asking the older preacher
for some advice.

The older preacher
walked up to a rosebush
and handed the young preacher
a rosebud and told him
to open it
without tearing off any petals.

The young preacher
looked in disbelief
at the older preacher
and was trying to figure out
what a rosebud
could possibly have to do
with his wanting to know
the will of God
for his life and ministry.

But because of his great respect
for the older preacher,
he proceeded to try to unfold the rose,
while keeping every petal intact.

It wasn't long
before he realized
how impossible
this was to do.

Noticing the younger preacher's
inability to unfold the rosebud
without tearing it,
the older preacher began
to recite the following poem...

"It is only a tiny rosebud,
A flower of God's design;
But I cannot unfold the petals
With these clumsy hands of mine."

"The secret of unfolding flowers
Is not known to such as I.
GOD opens this flower so easily,
But in my hands they die."

"If I cannot unfold a rosebud,
This flower of God's design,
Then how can I have the wisdom
To unfold this life of mine?"

"So I'll trust in God for leading
Each moment of my day.
I will look to God for guidance
In each step of the way."

"The path that lies before me,
Only my Lord knows.
I'll trust God to unfold the moments,
Just as He unfolds the rose."

Stress Management

Subject: Stress Management

A young lady in front of the room, confidently walked around while leading and explaining stress management to an audience; with a raised glass of water, and everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, 'half empty or half full?' .... she fooled them all...

'How heavy is this glass of water?' she inquired with a smile.

Answers called out ranged from 8oz. to 20oz.

The lecturer replied, 'The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you hold it.' If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. "If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.''In each case it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. 'She continued, 'and that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later,
as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on.'

'As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced. 'So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work/life down. Don't carry it home... pick it up tomorrow.' 'Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can. Relax; pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy it and the now 'supposed' stress that you've conquered!

And then she shared some ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

1 * Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue!

2 * Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

3 * Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

4 * Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.

5 * If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

6 * If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

7 * It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

8 * Never buy a car you can't push.

9 * Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

10 * Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

11 * Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird,
sleep late.

12 * The second mouse gets the cheese.

13 * When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

14 * Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

15 * You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

16 * Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

17 * We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

18 * A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

TIME

Something To Think About!
Imagine that you had won the following prize in a contest:
Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400.00 in your private account for your use. However, this prize had rules, just as any game has certain rules.
The first set of rules would be:
Everything that you didn't spend during each day would be taken away from you.You may not simply transfer money into some other account.
You may only spend it.Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400.00 for that day.

The second set of rules:
The bank can end the game without warning; at any time it can say, It's over, the game is over! It can close the account and you will not receive a new one. What would you personally do?You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love, right?Even for people you don't know, because you couldn't possibly spend it all on yourself, right? You would try to spend every cent, and use it all, right?

ACTUALLY, this GAME is REALITY!

Each of us is in possession of such a magical bank. We just can't seem to see it.
The MAGICAL BANK is TIME!Each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life, and when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is NOT credited to us.
What we haven't lived up that day is forever lost.
Yesterday is forever gone.
Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time....WITHOUT WARNING.
SO, what will YOU do with your 86,400 seconds?
Aren't they worth so much more than the same amount in dollars?
Think about that, and always think of this:Enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think.
So take care of yourself, and enjoy life!
Here's wishing you a wonderfully beautiful day!!!

ALABAMA JUDGE POEM

Alabama
Judge

Some of you may be wondering what Judge Roy Moore has been doing since he was removed from the bench for refusing to remove the Ten Commandments from his courtroom wall.. Please read the poem he wrote. It's below his picture.

The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama. Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama! The judge's poem sums it up quite well.

America the beautiful,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims' pride;
I'm glad they'll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love
and a need to always pray

We've kept God in our
temples,how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government
that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges;
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the womb.

You think that God's not
angry,that our land's a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face
and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven;
and forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,
If you don't - then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from Thee.

~~Judge Roy Moore~~

This says it all. May we all forward this message and offer our prayers for Judge Moore to be blessed and for America to wake up and realize what we need to do to keep OUR America the Beautiful.

Pass this on and let's lift Judge Moore up in Prayer. He has stood firm and needs our support.

My Birthday

Today is my birthday. I am having a pleasant day. The weather is rotten though. When I got up this morning it was 51 degrees high of 70 low of 47 cloudy with some fog and 80% humidity. I am in a good mood regardless.

My husband Bob took a friend of mine, Jill, and one of our sons , Oliver and myself to Bostons for a very nice dinner. Bob made me a Red Velvet Cake and we had some icecream to go with it.

A lot of my friends and family that are on Facebook wished me a happy birthday. So dispite the rain and cold and dampness I had a good day. I really enjoyed myself.

I recieved an Archaeological study bible (NIV) for my birthday.
In case you have not heard of this bible. It is an illustrated walk through biblical history and culture. It has over 8,000 study notes highlighting historical, archaeological and cultural topics of the bible times. It has timelines, outlines, maps and beautiful photographs. It is massive. I have started looking through it. It is quite beautiful.

Now it is summer and I can relax and enjoy tv and books again.
Between moving and school I have been kept busy with very little free time to write or blog. So hopefully I can blog a little more now that it is summer.

Missing in Action

Currently I am battling a sinus infection. I am very dizzy and feel sick to my stomach. I have had to miss several classes because I do not feel well.
I am taking medicine. I head feels like it is going to explode.

The other reason I have not posted anything recently is because college is taking up a lot of my time. I go to class and come home and study. I have a test or a quiz every week. So I have a lot of things to read and not a lot of free time.
